Located in NW Saudi Arabia, AlUla was chosen as a part of a recent UN initiative to demonstrate sustainable tourism and development, and safeguard its world-class heritage assets. Recently, Design Workshop developed a suite of comprehensive guidelines for developers, professionals, and the public that includes specifications for wayfinding and building identity signage. The result was 250-page guideline that provided guidance for signage for dozens of building types, land uses, and unique conditions throughout the county. Emphasizing an integrated approach, these guidelines aim to protect the county’s heritage, ensure development cohesion, and guide future growth, while respecting the region's historical and ongoing developmental context.
